My Approach to Therapy
I believe that therapy should be supportive and collaborative. I see my clients as the experts of their own lives. My role is to help guide and support as you process and work through challenges in your life. I believe that meaningful connections and comfort in the therapy space are the most important aspects for growth. I aim to work with you to help establish a therapeutic relationship that feels safe, respectful, and authentic. I strive to make sure that my clients feel heard and valued in our time together.
My approach to therapy is client centered and strengths based. This means that I want to know your goals and concerns, work with you to achieve them, and recognize and build on your strengths. I incorporate evidenced based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in my work. My focus is to assist you in strengthening and building new skills to help you: cope more effectively with the stress in your life; manage the challenges posed by new and difficult situations; and improve your ability to better manage your emotions.
Children and Adolescents
I am passionate about working with children, teens, and young adults who are navigating emotional, behavioral, and social challenges. My approach with younger clients is engaging, supportive, and developmentally appropriate. I enjoy using interactive and creative activities that make therapy feel inviting so that your child can better understand their emotions, communicate their needs more effectively, and build confidence in their ability to handle difficult situations. When working with children and teens, I believe collaboration with parents is important. I want to hear your concerns and be aware of your values and goals for your child. I strive to balance supporting families while maintaining a trusting relationship with your child or teen, so that they feel comfortable being open in sessions.
When I work with teens my goal is to help them learn to better cope with the many complex challenges that today’s adolescents face. Many teenagers feel overwhelmed by today’s society. The pressures and stresses associated with social media are often a major issue for many teens, as well as a concern for many parents. I take these issues into account when I work with teens, as well as addressing the many other concerns that adolescents face including learning to develop healthy relationships, managing their responsibilities, and developing a positive self-image. With young adults, bearing all the responsibilities of adult life can feel overwhelming. My focus with young adults is to help them learn to recognize that these challenges are manageable and develop the skills, resilience, and self-confidence to successfully transition to adulthood.
Adults
Many adults may come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure. Feeling anxious, stressed, and depressed are all too common in today’s society. When I work with you, I will explore your goals and collaborate with you to develop a plan on how we can work together to help you achieve your goals. My approach is non-judgemental; I work to provide a supportive and comforting space where you can explore all aspects of your life without feeling judged. My goal is to help you, and all those I work with, feel more confident in managing stress, setting boundaries, and making choices that align with their personal goals.
