My Approach to Therapy
As a therapist I strive to provide a supportive, warm and trusting environment. After years of working in crisis stabilization with children, adolescents and their families, I understand the need to alleviate emotional pain and resolve problems as quickly as possible. In our work together, I will begin by helping you find effective ways to address your concerns and lessen any distress you are experiencing. Having been trained psychodynamically, I believe that there is often much benefit for more in-depth work. I will discuss the option of more in-depth work as part of our treatment planning. I believe therapy is a partnership and journey we embark on together. My goal is to help you, your children and/or your family.
Problems in Childhood and Adolescence
Throughout my practice, working with children, adolescents and their families has been my passion. I work with a spectrum of challenges from ADHD, peer and family conflicts to self-injurious behaviors, depression, and anxiety. In our work together, my goal will be to help your child or teen find ways to verbalize his/her emotions, identify healthy ways to manage feelings and behaviors, as well as help improve communication within the family. In my practice I believe that it is critical to involve you, as parents, in finding the best way to help your child. Depending on our preferences, and the problems/concerns facing your child, I will either consult with you about your child's therapy, or work with your family to address your concerns about your child or teen. I also work extensively with children and teens with ADHD, and support parents in finding more effective ways to help their children and adolescents cope with the challenges that ADHD poses in school and with peers.
My work with adults focuses on helping you find more effective ways to cope with and resolve current concerns. I draw on a variety of clinical strategies to assist you in learning how to more effectively cope with current stresses, resolve problems with depression and anxiety, and address relationship issues. However, I also believe that it can be very valuable to help you achieve a fuller and deeper understanding of yourself. To this end, I draw on psychoanalytic and psychodynamic approaches to help my clients gain greater insight and self-awareness.
